The Department of Economic Development was established in March, 2008, with one full-time director. This department is a member of, and actively participates in the following organizations in Southwest Missouri:
In 2007, Aurora was designated a DREAM community by Governor Blunt. This three year program will provide a comprehensive package of services to assist in the redevelopment and revitalization of downtown Aurora. NEW! Southern Lawrence County Enhanced Enterprise Zone
Effective January 9, 2009 a new Enhanced Enterprise Zone was designated for all of southern Lawrence County (including Aurora). This overlays a benefit to the area for new and existing businesses, that meet a specific industrial classification and make the qualified investment, to receive tax credits and property tax abatements. Businesses that are not eligible for this benefit include retail, restaurants, gambling establishments, schools and government. Downtown Business Assistance Program
The City of Aurora, in conjunction with local banks, sponsors a program to assist downtown business owners with lower interest loans. These loans can be used to purchase buildings or make improvements on currently owned buildings within the downtown area (Olive to Church on the north and south and Elliott to Washington on the east, west, and all streets in between).
